As a wedding photographer, I may be a little biased, but I truly believe that photography is the most important part of your wedding day. Why? Aside from your groom, and maybe your dress, it’s the only thing you get to keep forever!
I remember on my wedding day, it was hot. LIKE. SO. HOT. And after a two hour ceremony, and family portraits, and bridal party portraits, and a few couples portraits, I was ready to be done. I was hot, sweaty, hungry, and craving a Mtn. Dew! (Remember being young enough to enjoy drinking Mtn. Dew?)
Our photographer asked us if we wanted to go across the street to the beach for some more couples portraits. No. All I wanted was that dang green drink, and a snickers, and some pizza, and maybe a cheeseburger, and definitely air conditioning and a swimming pool to boot! So we didn’t get the couple’s photos at the beach. And do you know what? Once we got to our reception, we just wanted to have fun with our guests, so we didn’t get couple’s photos there either. And to this day (five years later), it makes me sad. Whhhhyyyyy didn’t I just toughen up and do it?!
Today’s weddings are definitely, not your mother’s wedding. There are so many traditional elements of the wedding day that are no longer adhered to. For example, First Look sessions are amazing and so, so common. Customarily, the groom doesn’t see his future wife until she’s marching down the isle to the Bridal Chorus. But a first look allows the happy couple to to see each other’s reaction to seeing each other on the biggest day of their lives! It lets them share such a special moment, alone, before they are surrounded by loved ones.. Another photography session that many couples are wanting is a full Bridal Session.
A full bridal session is the equivalent to couple’s portraits on a wedding day, only they’re done prior to the wedding day. This allows couples the chance for a First Look Session and to get those much desired photos of just the two of them. The ones that will adorn the walls of their home. A Bridal session also eliminates the rushing, and the stressing that can happen on the wedding day when trying to squeeze everything into a timeline! By taking couples portraits prior to their wedding day, they allow for the Big Day to be stress free and fun! Not only does the couple get more photos but they can actually take time to eat at their reception (huge bonus!).
I was lucky enough to go back to San Diego’s historic Darlington House to photograph a styled Bridal Session for Kenroy and Gigi. These two were so much fun! They could not stop laughing and just enjoyed being in each other’s company. Gigi’s pompadour inspired updo, lace and chiffon gown, and pearl accessories fit right in with Darlington’s vintage and feminine elegance! And can we just take a movement to swoon over the blush against her skin?! GORGEOUS!
It was a lovely day, and I’m so grateful I was able to be a part of it.
