Carolyn & James | San Diego Central Library Elopement

Young Love

I want you to remember who you were dating back in the 10th grade… Can you picture them? Now imagine you were married to them!!! Isn’t that a very weird and (sometimes) scary thought?! Carolyn and James started dating their sophomore year of high school and just recently married in an Elopement at the San Diego Central Library!

Carolyn & James have been together for seventeen years, and even powered through a long-distance relationship while Carolyn attended MIT to earn an engineering degree, and James stayed in California to become a substance abuse counselor! “When you know, you know,” right?

San Diego Central Library

Are best friends who have similar interests, values, goals in life, and visions for the future. It was their love of reading that inspired them to choose the San Diego Central Library as their wedding venue.  Nearly every evening for the past several years, they have read together, by taking turns reading the same book out loud. Needless to say, I was thrilled to be able to serve this darling couple, and especially to take their portraits on the cantilevered balcony! The architecture is not like anything else in San Diego!

Romantic Elegance… and Books

To further emphasize their love of the written word, wedding coordinator, Annemarie (Annemarie Donaker Events), and florist,  Kriselle (Taylor Grace Custom Florals), incorporated a plethora of matte black, hardcover books in the centerpieces. A scripture passage and poetry was read during the ceremony, instead of traditional vows.

The color pallet was soft and cool, perfect for a winter wedding. The bride wore an ivory gown and ivory Badgley Mischka heels. Her groom wore shades of gray, and both of their mothers wore “something blue.” Again, Annemarie and Krislle further emphasized the romantic elegance with ivory and lavender florals, soft greenery and gold accents.

Simple and Timeless

Like most people, Carolyn mentioned that she feels uncomfortable in front of the camera (raise your hand if you do too! Me! Me!), but you would never know from looking at these photos! This couple’s day was filled with beauty! Everything about it was just as she wanted, simple and timeless. I could have photographed this wedding for days!

Carolyn & James, thank you so much for allowing me to serve you on your wedding day!
